West Area Festival Night 2019
Over 80 music lovers gathered at Shakti Centre for the long awaited and sell out Festival Night incorporating Diwali and Christmas celebrations combo (2 for the price of 1!) featuring live music with dinner.
The day started with our team of volunteers preparing the food and decorating the tables for the evening. These sort of programmes are always very popular and not only did we have members from our local area but also from other areas.
The scrumptious meal was followed by musical entertainment provided by Sur Aangan Orchestra who sang the melodies of past decades with some current filmi hits together with a few “requests” from the revellers. From the very first song the ravers were on the dance floor and also joined in with the singing and clapping. The band also threw in some Garba songs and we played some traditional garbas as well.
There was a refreshment break midway through the evening for some masala chai. Not to be outdone by the Diwali menu which boasted sweet Gulab Jamuns, the Christmas offering was home-made Mince Pies kindly donated by Induben which went down a treat with the masala chai.
The second musical session then got underway with even more singing and dancing.
At the finale the band played/sang a medley of Hindi songs to bring an unforgettable evening to a close with all guests joining hands and dancing in a circle.
All who attended enjoyed the programme and agreed that it was a fantastic evening.
A huge thank you to all the volunteers for making the evening a success. Special thanks to Pragnaben for the floating candles and table decorations, Pritiben J and Minaben for the Rangoli display and last but not least, thanks to the few gents for the washing up at the end!
If you would like to be part of any future events, you know the drill – buy/reserve your place straightaway to avoid any disappointment.
