Only a few days left till Diwali and New Year’s Day and to celebrate East Area OAUK decided to hold an event to show Rangolis. We were privileged to have Bijal Milan Shah from North West area accompanied by her mother in law Mrs Suryakalaben Laxmichand Shah. The event took place at St Albans Church Hall, Albert Hall, Ilford, Essex IG1 1HW; on 24th September 2016 at 7.00pm till 10.00pm and there was a good turnout.
The event started with a prayer, one minute silence and then introduction of Bijal. She spoke about how she got interested in making Rangoli and that it was a hobby. Now she demonstrates and wants the young generation to take part in doing Rangoli. She explained all about colours and the ingredients used to mix the colours, also how the colours are held between two fingers to make rangoli. She demonstrated several different types of Rangoli and it was interesting to learn so many things in a short time.
There was one eight year old girl Ayushi Hinesh Shah, who was very much engulfed in the way Rangoli was done and at the end she did one of a diva. If you go on the photo galary can see her work. We wanted to say a well done to Ayushi who was the youngest attendant to the event.
There was a meal of Idli and sambhar. The idli were made by Mrs Madhuben Subhash Shah and was donated by her which the East Area committee would like to thank. Everyone enjoyed the idli sambhar with chevdo in this informative evening. The programme ended with a word of thanks to Bijal and presentation of an orchid to her, which was donated by Bhartiben Babulal Shah.
Special thanks to Mrs Lalitaben Amritlal Shah for organising the rangoli demonstration by Bijal.
