Oshwals participate for Kho Kho World Cup

10 players from Oshwal community selected to play for the England at the first Kho Kho World Cup

The inaugural Kho Kho World Cup due to take place at the IGI Stadium Delhi, India from 13-19 January 2025 will feature 10 players from the Oshwal community in the England team. Fielding both a men’s and a women’s team, each squad will consist of 15 talented athletes, ready to showcase their skills on the global stage in this thrilling and fast-paced sport.

The players from the Oshwal Kho Kho teams were successfully selected after trials in November 2024. The selected players, 4 girls and 6 boys, learned to play in their respective Youth Clubs under the coaching of Coach Kalpen and Rohit, and during regional and national competitions and tournaments over the years. Coach Kalpen who has been providing coaching for the England Team as well and will be travelling with the teams to India.

The England squad consisting of players from across the country has been training for the past 2 months including a 3-day boot camp between Christmas and New Year in preparation for the competition.

The men’s England team has been drawn in a group that includes Australia, Kenya, Malaysia, and Germany. The women’s England team group includes Uganda, Netherlands, Kenya, Germany, and Australia.  The winners of the group stages will progress to the final stages.

The games will be televised and content will also be available on: Disney Hotstar, Star Sports and Doordarshan channels.

The Kho Kho game has been played since the seventies by different Indian community groups and organisations across the England.  The Kho Kho Federation of England was established in 2013 by Brij Haldania, who serves as its chairman. Over the past decade, the federation has worked tirelessly to popularise the sport in the UK, building a foundation for Team England to compete at the international level.

The first Kho Kho World Cup is already making waves, with some of Bollywood’s biggest stars lending their support as ambassadors. Iconic names like Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, and Ananya Panday have joined the cause, helping to elevate the sport’s profile and inspire a global audience.
