Making choices at any point in our lives can be daunting.

In this series of webinars, Oshwal Business and Professional Network (OBPN) wants to help young people be more informed when they have to choose their options, be it for GCSE subjects, A levels, vocational courses, degree courses or employment.

By presentations from experts in their field, we hope to inspire, inform and education young people embarking on their careers at every stage and to kick-start the series, we begin with careers in STEM and are delighted to hear from our very own OAUK Trustee, Dr Rajvee Punatar.

Dr Rajvee Punatar has worked in the field of cancer research for over 25 years and is a Principal Research Scientist at the world-renowned Francis Crick Institute in London.  She studies how our DNA is repaired after being damaged, and how defects in this process can lead to cancer. Using a variety of molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, Rajvee has cloned, purified and studied a number of proteins involved in DNA repair and has published her work in high-impact journals including Cell, Science and the EMBO Journal.

As well as carrying out her own research, Dr Punatar trains PhD students, collaborates with other scientists, and manages the day-to-day running of the laboratory. She is passionate about promoting women and minorities in science and making science more accessible to the public. In 2021 she won the Francis Crick Award in Public Engagement for her work on vaccines and tackling science misinformation.
