Late Anjana Mahesh Shah
19 March 1953 – 28 July 2025
It is with deep regret and a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Anjana Shah of Southend-on Sea-on the afternoon of Monday 28 July 2025.
Anjana (Anju) was born in Nairobi, Kenya before moving to the UK in 1975.
Beloved wife of Mahesh Shah.
Devoted mother of Raj Shah and mother-in-law to Adam.
Daughter of Kantaben and the late Devraj Popat Shah.
Daughter-in-law of the late Paniben and the late Raichand Punja Shah.
Sister of Laxmichand (Mukta), Sudha (Mahendra), the late Meena (Jayu), Daksha (Balwant) Mayur (the late Harsha) & Kirti (Jonathan)
Sister-in-law to the late Ramesh (Saroj), Tarun (Manjari), the late Indu (Lalit), Usha (Ashwin).
Aunt to Rikesh (Lorna), Sanjay (Tracy), Sonia (Jeenesh), Anjali (Paolo), Nikhil (Hanna), Ajita (Nilanjan), Kunal (Kajal), Vanshri, Binti, Nishma (Kalpesh), Dipun (Neelima), Sheetal, Amar (Caitlin), Rajul (Ameet), Chirag (Hamini), Priyanka (Ravi), Paraag, Priyasha (Akshay), Aneeka, and Anuja (Ronil).
Great Aunt to Aasha, Eshan, Naiyan, Rian, Maya, Matilda, Liam, Anoushka, Ida, Sami, Thea, Aurelio, Ricky, Dilan, Rhys, Kai, Rian, Shrey, Kavita, Ameya, Athelia, and Aari.
A devoted Arsenal fan, Anju’s incorrigible football fanaticism never abated. Even on her deathbed, she roused from a coma one last time to rejoice in the Lionesses’ triumph in Basel on the eve of her passing.
Her infectious and unmatched zest for life led her to make friends across the world and pursue passions as varied as world travel, art history, religion, and foreign languages.
She was the most joyful when speaking to her grand nieces and nephews. She was always the first person to send wishes for birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions.
In her last year, Anju relived her Kenyan youth while she was compassionately cared for by a fellow Nairobian, Rose.
Anju, you have left an irreplaceable void in our hearts. Your memory will forever be a blessing, and you will be deeply missed.
As per her wishes, there will be no sadari. Please keep Anju in your thoughts and prayers. Funeral arrangements to be confirmed shortly.
