Late Manjula Zaverchand Shah
24 July 1940 – 28 June 2026
With deep sorrow we want to share the passing of our wonderful mother, Manjula Zaverchand Shah, on Sunday, 28th June 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya. She had survived our father, the late Zaverchand Meghji Shah (of Gaam Kakabhai Sihan) by one year. They met and married in Nairobi before moving to the UK to eventually live in Pinner, Middlesex. Together they built and ran Oshwal Furnishing Store, a curtain retail business in the UK, before retiring and dedicating their lives to Jainism.
Manjuben was a mother of Rashma and Anisha (Alpa) and mother-in-law to Richard.
She was the daughter of Late Roopaben Kachra Narshi Shah and Late Kachra Narshi Shah.
She was Daughter-in-Law of Late Valiben Meghji Devraj and Late Meghji Devraj Karania.
She was Sister of Late Jayantibhai (Mrudula), Late Amratben (Late Raichand), Late Kasturben, Shantaben (Liladhar), Late Chandramani, Kusum (Ramesh), Saroj (Deepak) and Late Pravinbhai (Champaben).
She was Sister-in-Law of Late Harakhchand (Narmadaben) and Vinod (Nira).
She was Niece of Velji Narshi, Popat Narshi, Late Jethalal Devraj Shah (Late Amratben) and Late Hansraj Devraj Shah (Late Lalitaben).
In Jainism, she self-educated herself in scriptures to excel in her knowledge of her faith. She was a role-model to her many sadharmi friends; young and old alike looked to her for guidance. She and her husband, Zavubhai, were the driving force behind opening the Jain temple in Harrow Weald; they continued to be dedicated members of the mandal in both Harrow Weald and Nairobi. They spent months at a time in pilgrimage at Deolali and Songadh; the Jainist scholar, Hemantbhai, was like a brother to them.
Manjuben was a quiet, gentle, strong spirit with a beautiful smile that brightened a cloudy day. Her courage and strength will forever be inspiring. And it was wonderful that she got to spend her last years back in Kenya with Narmadaben and her family: Rishit, Priti, Akshat and Nishi.
Manjuben touched many lives, in our memories she (and Zavubhai) lives on. Rest in Peace, forever and with love, you will be much missed.
Om Shanti Shanti Shanti Om
