However, there are some very interesting alternatives to just taking medicine.

Oshwal Website

Many of you will be aware that our current website has been down since before Christmas. Firstly our apologies for the inconvenience this may have caused you. We had put up a temporary page with Saddadi information and have been working on a new website. I am pleased to announce that the new website has been created and will go live on 1st February 2016. The site is being rolled out in phases and what you will initially see is key information on events, saddadi’s and general information. Over the coming weeks we will continue to populate the site. Please do take a look and we welcome your feedback.

Oshwal Open Day
In my last eshot I informed members of an open morning we have planned for Sunday 21st February 10-00am at Oshwal Centre. This open morning is to encourage all members who have thought about getting involved in the running of Oshwal Association at Area level or at EC level, but are not sure or do not know what is involved.

The open morning offers an opportunity to talk to Trustees and Area Committee members, to answer questions and share with you what we all do.

Elections are around the corner and we would really love to welcome new faces in both the Area committees and the Executive Committee.

Community work is truly inspirational and opens a world of new friends as well as a chance to shape the future direction of our Association. If you have thought about getting involved but have not taken the first step, come along on 21st February and talk to us. No obligation, just a chance to understand first-hand what it’s all about. In order that we can plan for the event, please can you send an email to events@oshwal.org to confirm your attendance.

We require just your name and Area of residence.
Come along – encourage your family members – just a chat and a cup of tea!

Oshwal Directory
As you may be aware, an online Oshwal Directory has been launched and is open to view by registration. On the back of this we planned to print a paper version of the directory. We then looked at all the information we held and have found anomalies in the other databases. The online directory has captured 60% of our members’ details. Unfortunately, close to 40% were either missing or not on the new database.

We are currently in the process of reviewing our database of membership records and merging these with the online and census records in order to create a single main database. We have over 31,000 entries to review and I am pleased to confirm that so far we have matched 61% of the membership records.

There are a number of entries that appear on the directory or on the census records where we have been unable to identify individuals as members. We will shortly be sending out e-mails to these individuals requesting them to confirm their membership details.

I would like to thank all our members for their continued patience whilst this task is carried out. As this task is being carried out by volunteers in their spare time, I would be grateful if everyone who receives an e-mail responds promptly. If you do not receive an e-mail, please do not worry as this probably means that your entry has already been matched. I would request members not to contact the office for updates or confirmation regarding their individual entries. Information on progress will be released as the task continues.

Oshwal Achievement Awards
As mentioned last time, we will be presenting awards again this year to Oshwals who have carried out exceptional work for charitable causes outside the community. Oshwals who have served the local community as School Governors, Magistrates, other civil positions. Oshwals who have received civic or national recognition. In fact any Oshwal you think has carried out exceptional work outside the community should be considered worthy of nomination. As with previous years, please can you approach your local Area chairperson or committee member with details. Together, you can then prepare a nomination which will be reviewed by the Board of Advisors. Based upon their recommendations the Executive committee will select up to 3 worthy recipients. The closing date is approaching fast so please do get in touch.

Finally the days are passing by very quickly and my tenure as President will end on 24th April 2016 when we will elect a new executive committee. We encourage you all to attend the AGM’s both locally and the main AGM. For me, the next few weeks are a period of reflection and as the AGM approaches, I can certainly say that it has been a privilege and honour to serve Oshwal Association. I hope that we collectively as an EC and the Area Committees met with your expectations.

I hope to see many of you at the Area AGM’s in the coming weeks.

With kind regards.
